But all these practices were invented before they were illegal. Once it is illegal it is very easy to draw the line. Under Dutch customer law some of these practices have been forbidden or limited because it is considered an unfair way of trading. when a customer is too lazy, too dumb or too distracted to make a note on the old calendar to cancel by a certain date that speaks to the failings of the customer, not the sellerThis is debatable and a sliding scale. Take a bit of responsinility for your actions, why don’t you? It’s funny how many folks will join the pitch fork brigade led by some hapless dude who had his credit card charged because HE didn’t do what he was supposed to do by canceling once he determined that he didn’t dig the product. when a customer is too lazy, too dumb or too distracted to make a note on the old calendar to cancel by a certain date that speaks to the failings of the customer, not the seller Thanks OP!With respect, it’s not a scheme. The only reason to not do this is because you want to trick people into a subscription.ĭon't use Splice, noted. Your lease will start and it will run until you cancel it."
The proper and decent way to go about this is to give the user of the software a small popup the first time (s)he uses the software after the trial period has ended saying something along the line of "press 'ok' if you still want to use this software.
Whatever the small print says and whether or not the OP should've known doesn't take away from the fact that these kinds of 'schemes' are terrible ways into tricking people into subscriptions. And you look like an idiot when you complain publicly and trashing a good company. You didnt read the manual, and were careless in trusting that the internet would take care of you. a scam, at the least. That model has been used in every industry that sells software on the internet. i'm sure it was somewhere in the "small print'.
!!! Never heard of that in this industry and it was not made clear to me that this happens with them. Whaaaaaat? A trial demo that automatically morphs into a lease/purchase if you don't cancel?ī.S. So I emailed them and they said that I didn't cancel the demo so it went to lease/purchase. I just now noticed that they have been charging me for the lease of Zone for the past 3 months. Tried it but didn't really think it was adding to my arsenal. I tried a demo of Zone (from Splice) a few months back.
